JOEL'S REFLECTION ON ROBBERY CASE. READ ON TO FIND OUT MORE!

The incident happened when I received a phone call from Jocelyn, one of the sec4 NPCC cdts. My 1st reaction then was that could it be they’re trying to prank me? So I questioned further and until I saw Sinwei and Gary both running across the basketball court then I realised that it was actually true. And that was the moment when I shouted to my Instructors behind to run and I myself just picked up speed and ran towards their direction.

Frankly speaking, I had served my NS in the Police Force as a Police Inspector. And whether you consider it lucky or not, I just ORDed the day before and went to return my warrant card that day morning when that evening the incident happened. I extract this portion of the SPF departmental values - Courage, Loyalty, Integrity and Fairness.

To speak of courage, we are willing to risk our lives, if necessary, in order to safeguard our society. We also have the moral courage to seek and speak the truth, and to set wrongs right. As a Cadet Inspector for NPCC, I had to safeguard the safety of my cadets. Knowing that two of my cdts, Sinwei and Gary were chasing after the man, their safety or rather if there’s any other person around, their safety will always been the top priority in my mind.

There were actually a group of cdts involved in this incident, Jocelyn Sim , Janet, Alicia Teo, Jasmine Yap, Shaolong, Alan Lee, Jason and of course our NPCC instructors who rendered their help at the later part of the incident. Everyone worked together as a team having some shouting for help, assisting to carry bags, taking care of the old lady and of course giving chase. And every instructors present stayed till almost midnight to wait for Gary and Sinwei to finish their statements and to send Sinwei to the doctor as well as sending both of them home safely after everything was over. The assignment of job is just so spontaneous. I am proud to say that as NPCC cadets and instructors they had succeeded in their core of duties. They had done themselves and the Unit proud. They had done well.

To all NPCC cadets, I know that the newspaper coverage and all the news had greatly boost the morale in the Unit. But I want you to always remember that for all these actions, it was never done with the initial intention of bringing glory to the Unit or bring any personal benefits to anyone. And it should never be the case. The help should come right from your heart. Your purpose of helping must be set correctly. Whether recognition is given, it should not matter to you because you know that at the end of the day, you had done something good and that is all it should matter. Never forget the NPCC Mission - to develop its cadets into caring and responsible citizens and Vision - to mould the builders of a safe & secure home. It should be part of you by now. Never forget the pledge that you recite while you’re in your blue uniform. The last verse – We pledge to preserve the peace and uphold the Law. Even after you passed out, always let these learning values and principles be the guiding star for you.

To end this off, it is every citizen’s duty to assist in maintaining law and order in Singapore. Your help can be just as simple as making a triple nine call. Always remember that while others safety is important, you must never jeopardise your personal safety too. If possible, always contact the Police at the first instance.
