reflections on NCO camp 2008 - Weijun's
30/01/08...
From the NCO Camp 2008, I learnt that in our squad, we should have teamwork and and team bonding among us, so that we can achieve our goal. We should also help each other when they need help. Another thing is that I learnt is "PICARD". During the camp, we would always shout "The expectations of NCO Camp 2008, PICARD, punctuality , initiative, commitment, attitude, responsibility, discipline DRINK UP!" to remind ourselves that we should follow the values of PICARD during the camp and even after the camp for the rest of our years in NPCC.
Though it was tough and tiring, I enjoyed some parts of the camp, like the hike and other times that me and my squad spent together. During the hike, my team , Jasimine and Shao Long had fun together when we were walking from school to Seletar Reservoir. At Seletar Reservoir, under one of the shelters there, we had our lunch there (outdoor cooking). We were the first team to reach there and we were the first team to leave too. Though we were the first team to leave Seletar Reservoir, we were the second to reach Sembawang Park. I was also disappointed when i discovered that Shao long had to change team because of casualties(sick), but he came back after the hike. It was a tiring day, but I had a good time working and talking with my team mates.
At Sembawang Park, we pitched our basha, we had just learnt how to pitch the basha. This basha that we had learnt was "safer" because there was only two openings, which allowed less rain to enter. It was better than the one we pitched on the first day, which has more openings and allowed more rain to come in, luckily for us, there was no rain on that night. At Sembawang Park, we slept at around 8pm and the instructors woke us up a few hours later(is actually half an hour later). We had to walk back to school. We quickly unpitched our basha and fall-in. After a few minutes, we found out that some of our items were lost. We got a scolding from the instructors. After that, we started to hike back .
On the way back, there were some casualities(due to fast march) and we had to take the bus back to school(actually it was already planned that way). I felt relieved as I was quite tired to walk back. Back to school, we got another scolding from the instructors. We had to do some changing, pouring things out from our bag and putting it back again. This has taught me to have a sense of urgency towards everything that we do.
On the last day of the camp, I felt happy as we were able to go home at last. All the activities that the instructors planned for us were interesting, and I appreciate that. Although we had to go through more courses to be an NCO, I had learnt many things from the camp.
In conclusion, the camp was tiring but we learnt many values from it, most importantly our sense of urgency and the PICARD values, and not forgetting our instructors who stayed up late to plan activities for us. I would like to thank them for their hardwork.
