sec1 camp - for NCOs

10-12/03/08...

Sec1 camp was over and whether was it a success would depend on each individuals whether you feel had you put in your best effort to ensure that at the end of the day...you had done your best and that the Sec1 cadets had benefited from this camp. Just like what your Alan Sir had said...teaching is one thing...learning it is another...you can teach a million and one knowledge to your cadets...but in the end did the cadets learn a single thing? It is up to you to answer it...certainly no matter how well a camp is...there's always room for improvement...there will be always new problems/ obstacles we faced...and every situations called for a unique solution to rectify it...make a mistake? It's ok...everyone of us are learning everyday...importantly is we admit our mistakes...know why is it a mistake...get solutions for it...and learn from it...and not to repeat it...that should always be the learning spirit in NPCC...or even in life...thus now there's a few learning points for you to take note of...of course in additional to the minutes that Clarence will send to all the NCOs at a later date...

Qns to ask yourself (pointers to take note when planning):

1) Is the Camp too sudden?
2) Is there enough preparation time(for logistics and admin and training)?
3) Are the NCOs properly equipped both with the hard and soft skills?
4) Are the NCOs aware of their respective jobscope?
5) Are the NCOs clear on their roles and responsbilities during the camp?
6) Is everyone clear of the programme?
7) Is everyone clear on the running of the camp?
8) Is there any pre-preparation job required on the cadets part? ( eg is there a need to train the cadets on certain skills before they come for camp?)
9) Is a briefing required for cadets?
10) What are the list of actions required to carry out and is under whose jobscope is it to execute it for every individual programme in the camp?
11) How is the morale of the trainers? (Are we prepared for it?)

for actual learning pointers to note - pls refer to the minutes sent out by clarence.

Basically as NCOs...your role is to ensure that knowledge are being passed down...and cadets learn from it...and to be a leader and role model to them...that's why discipline had been emphasize...as leaders...we do not demand others to do what we can't demand of ourselves...

Overall given the short notice and preparation time...the NCOs you had done a good job in running and ensuring the smooth running of the camp...although initially there's some nervousness in you...but as this is your first time as NCO and your first time training cadets...you had shown great improvement subsequently...I don't wish to thank you for running well the camp...because this Unit is yours...the cadets belong to you...it is your responsibilities to ensure that when the cadets graduated from NPCC...they learn something during their stay with NPCC...we as instructors are only here to guide...we had done our part when we were once NCOs...

instead...I will like to congratulate you...for taking the first step out towards NCOship...and I hope to see further improvement in your skills...and the expectations you had set for yourself...remember...as trainers...we train people...as leaders...we inspire people...we must strive for excellence...and I believe you can...

Thank you

Joel
