TD Silver Field Trip - Old Ford Factory Gallery Exhibition

On the 31 Aug 11, our Unit organised for our Sec2 cadets, a heritage trip to the Old Ford Factory Gallery as part of the syllabus for Total Defence Silver Badge. The Old Ford Factory is one of the historical site during World War II when the British surrendered to the Japanese on February 15, 1942. Now, the building has been converted into a WWII exhibition gallery. As part of the assessment, our cadets were required to write up a reflection on the trip and also on their learning.

Teck Ghee National Day Carnival 2011 - Deyi NPCC PYA Project

On the 21st Aug 11, Deyi NPCC Unit was invited by AMK South NPC to collaborate on a Crime Prevention booth exhibition and in particular focusing on Bicycle Theft. As part of the PYA badge requirement for Sec3s, cadets are to bring the Community Safety and Security Programme (CSSP) out to the community and target on common safety and security issues that are of concerned in the community currently.

Our Sec3s Cadet Leaders were deployed into 2 shifts - morning and afternoon. Our booth had mainly 3 sections;

1) Bicycle booth - for the pasting of serial number on the bicycle body frame;
2) Games - jigsaw puzzle and spinning wheel where freebies were given to participants;
3) General crimes - educating the public on general crime preventive measures.

This event was graced by our Prime Minister Mr Lee Hsien Loong and CI (NPCC) Gary Toh had the honour to present our booth to Mr Lee. Our Cadet Leaders, Cadet Inspectors and Officers were selfless and spent their sunday meaningfully to serve the community by sharing and educating the members of public on crime preventive measures through games and interaction! One more citizen knows about crime prevention, one less victim fall pray to crime and we are one step ahead in making Singapore a better home and developing our cadets to be a Caring and Responsible Citizen!

3 Cheers to our Cadet Leaders!!! And we hope that this is a good learning experience for our Cadet Leaders and spread this community spirit even outside NPCC!

Inter Unit Quiz

Our Unit has participated in the Bi-annually Inter Unit Quiz Competition on the 15 Aug 11. The two teams has worked hard and prepared for the preliminaries. It is certainly a good experience and exposure for them!

The objectives of the competition are to:
a) Expose cadets to broader issues and thinking;

b) provide an opportunity for discovery learning and in-depth analysis of issues of concern.

c) test the cadets' resourcefulness, research and analytical abilities; and

d) test cadets' versatility in the following composite skills :-
ability to present findings / information in an interesting, and coherent manner, oral presentation skills, ability to think and articulate logically in an impromptu situation.

On the 20 August 2011, NPCC HQ organised its annual .38 Shooting Competition Finals 2011. From the preliminary rounds, Deyi NPCC Unit CI's and Officer's Team and Individuals had shot good score to emerge as part of the top 5 Teams and Individuals to enter into the Finals.

Inter-Unit Drill Competition Finals - 2nd Placing

On the 30th Jul 11, our Drill Team participated in the Inter-Unit Drill Competition Finals and we are proud to announce that our Drill Team had accomplished a fantastic result by coming in 2nd in placing among the top 10 drill teams which comprises of many good NPCC Units around Singapore. This astonishing result will not be possible if not for the hardwork and effort put in by our cadets and trainers. They had achieved this result by 4 half days training for the Prelim round and 2 half days training for the Finals round.

Our Drill Team had done our school and our Unit proud and keep up the good fighting spirit! Let's hope that we can maintain or even be the Champion for next year competition. We shall not be complacent and continue to maintain the drill standard we had in our Unit and the discipline level.

Drills is all about Teamwork and Discipline, Confidence and Impression!

NPCC Service Day

On the 27 Jul 11, NPCC HQ held its annual Service Day where all NPCC cadets around Singapore will move around the neighbourhoods to spread crime prevention messages and to educate the member of public on crime preventive measures.

Deyi Sec Sch NPCC Unit took part in this event by sending our Sec1s to 3s to the HDB housing estates around Deyi Sec Sch to spread the message. The cadets were divided into 5 teams with a mixture of various level and were in charge by an Officer or CI. Each team was deployed to cover a block and there were some teams which were fast enough to cover 2 blocks.

The cadets learnt more about crime preventive measures and at the same time took part in this meaningful event to help the community especially the elderly to be more updated and knowledgeable about the measures and at the same time remind them to be alert and vigilant at all times.

A great job done to all cadets! Developing our cadets into caring and responsible citizens.

Sec3 Crime Scene Investigation (CSI)

On the 21st Jul 11, 6 of our sec3s were nominated to attend the CSI visits at Home Team Academy (HTA) Training Village where they were exposed to different crime scenes and the different terrorism threats.

It was a short visit and an introduction to crime scenes and at the end of the visit, cadets will be awarded with the CSI badge.

Road Safety Park Duty

On the 22 jul 11, 33 of our Sec1 and 3 cadets went to Road Safety Park for a road safety duty.

Cadets are supposed to ensure that the Pri 5 students are following the traffic rules and regulations or else they will be booked by our cadets with demerit points.

This duty allows our cadets to reinforce the importance of following traffic rules to the students as well as themselves by being a responsible pedestrians and cyclists.

SYF @ Botanic Gardens

On the 17 Jul 11, 10 of our Sec3 Cadet Leaders and SSGT (NPCC) T. Narendran, together with the CIs were deployed for Logistic support as well as Crowd Control duty for the SYF @ Botanic Gardens. The team was personally led by our OC Mr Imran and coordinated by CI (NPCC) Wee Sin Wei.

As it was a Sunday, it was worth complimenting the cadets and CIs for their selfless commitment to response to their call of duty and had performed their duties faithfully. Our cadets and CIs had shown professionalism in handling the members of public and managing the few hundreds crowd who turned up to support this event. Our cadets had been efficient and effective in this deployment and we are pleased of their performance!

Great job to all and let us continue to execute our duties to the best of our abilities and strive to give people the best impression of us! DEYI NPCC UNIT!

Inter-Unit Drill Competition 2011 - Prelim Rounds

On the 9 July 2011, 19 of our Sec2s and 3s (see previous post for the participants) represented our Unit to participate in the Inter-Unit Drill Competition 2011.

The Drill Team underwent 4 half-days of vigorous and tough trainings just for these 4 minutes of performance during the competition. We are proud of the commitment and the amount of effort the cadets put in during the 4 days of training under the hot sun.

The sweat and time and effort put in has not been wasted by the show put up today during the competition. The process may be tough but we do hope and wish that the result will not disappoint us. In any case, our Drill Team had put in their very best effort during the competition and had make our Unit proud.

We wish them all the best for the result.

Asean School Games 2011

On the 3 Jul 11, 17 of our sec1 Cadets were deployed for Yeoman Duty for the Asean School Games 2011. Our Cadets and CIs actively played a role at Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) for the Water Polo sports competition by doing crowd control duty.

The fact that it was the first time our Sec1s performed Yeoman Duty and it was a warm day, we are pleased that our cadets endured through the 6 hours of duty and sacrificed their Sunday to respond to the call of duty.

Good job Sec1s...remember the learning lesson...Discipline and Impression.

Dear All,

We are pleased to announce that our Instructor Teo Zhi Guang has successfully completed the 80th Batch Cadet Inspector's Basic Training Course (CIBTC) on the 25 June 2011, which consisted of 3 days Modular Course, 1 week Residential Course at Home Team Academy and 4 days Adventure Training Camp (ATC) at Camp Resilience, P.Ubin. This course indeed trained the Cadet Inspector Trainees (CITs) to be physically and mentally strong.

To be a CI, Passion and Commitment is a must. We are proud that P/CI (NPCC) Zhi Guang has the make a selfless commitment to attend the CIBTC and return back to the Unit to serve by passing down his knowledge and expertise to his junior cadets.

We hope that all our cadets are inspired by the current CIs who had selflessly commit their time and effort to ensure that our cadets are value-added and enjoy the trainings. Because we would agree that without them, our Unit would not be as strong like now.

Once again, let's welcome P/CI (NPCC) Zhi Guang back to the Unit with the new responsibility that he has to uphold with his newly appointed rank.

On 8^th June, our Secondary 1 Cadets went to the Road Safety Park at East Coast to attend a Road Safety Course. There was a lecture, tests as well as practical games whereby cadets get to play different roles on the road, such as road marshals, bicycle riders, pedestrians and go-kart riders. They had fun and learnt about being safe on the road.

Let’s wish them all the best for their test results and they will be going to the Park again to carry out their Road Marshall Duty.

Sec2 Civil Defence Course 2011

On the 8th of June, our Secondary 2 Cadets went for the Civil Defence Course, where they learnt more about the things that firemen do. Some of them includes putting out fires as well as first aid. The cadets also took a test for their Civil Defence Proficiency Badge.

We hope that this course will be fruitful to our cadets as many life skills can be learnt here.

Sec3 LMSC 2011

On the 6th and 7th June, 15 of our Secondary 3 Cadet Leaders attended the Leadership and Mentoring Skills Course. This is a compulsory course for all Secondary 3 Cadets to attend. In this 2 day course, they learnt more about leadership as well as teamwork. The Cadet Leaders also tried out various teaching methods to teach their cadets and juniors. However, there will still be much more to learn during the life of a Cadet Leader.

We hope that this batch of Cadet Leaders would be able to continue leading the Unit to greater heights!

Area 3 ATC STC 2011

On the 3rd to 5th June, our Secondary 2 Cadets went for the Adventure Training Camp and the Secondary 3 Cadets went for the Survival Training Camp in Pulau Ubin. Cadets took part in various activities in the camp such as Ropes Courses, Kayaking, Jetty Jump as well as Land Expedition.

For the ATC, LCP (NPCC) Lei Ka Yu and LCP (NPCC) Yeo Si Jie obtained the Best Camper Award for females and males respectively! Congratulations to our 2 cadets who performed well during the ATC!

We hope that our cadets would remember and learn the valuable skills that they had learnt in this camp and apply it during training as well as passing them on to their juniors!

Sec1 Kayaking Course 2011

On 31th May and 1st June, 22 of our Secondary 1 Cadets went for the 1 Star Kayaking Course. Even though there was rain on the first day and a bright sun on the second day, most of our cadets still managed to complete the course and earned their badge!

For those who didn't, do not be discouraged as there will always be a second chance and we should learn from our mistakes!

On 30 May 2011, our Secondary 2 cadets went to the Singapore Anti-Narcotics Association (SANA) to gain more knowledge on the different types of drugs, how it affects us and how to prevent all of us from being drug addicts!

We hope that our cadets are able to spread anti-drugs message to the community and reduce the number of drug addicts!

Sec1 PK1 Course cum AMK Sec Telematch

On 25 May 2011, our Secondary 1 cadets attended the Police Knowledge 1 Course at Ang Mo Kio Secondary School, which they learnt more about laws and crimes. We hope that the knowledge that they learnt will help our cadets to act as ambassadors to spread the crime prevention message as well as a deterrence for them!

At the same time, 10 of our Secondary 2 cadets took part in the Telematch which was held at the same school. They obtained the 1st runner up. Congratulations to these 10 cadets!

Good Morning to all. I am Staff Sergeant, Muhammad Solihin. Firstly I would like to thank all of you here for attending our Passing out Parade. Today is a special occasion, a bitter-sweet one for us, the graduating ones.

Here we are, on this memorable day, marking our final stage in NPCC. Recalling back our training during Sec1, we were like a blank piece of paper, not knowing each other too. After several trainings, we began to understand each other better and bond together as a family. Remembering all the fun we had during courses, visits and trainings. In our first two years, we have learned the importance of PICARD.

Coming to my most memorable event which I learned a lot from, the Cadet Leader Camp, it is a camp which we learned what is leadership and how we can motivate and support each other. As we graduated from the Camp, we gained greater responsibility. We were now the ones responsible for all of the Cadets and the Unit.

I have not regretted having NPCC as my CCA for these 4 years. I was able to experience many different things that others would not have. This experiences and skills are also not found in classrooms lessons, especially the team bonding of the squad. It is something which I treasure the most. Thank you, my Squad mates!

On behalf of my squad, I would also want to thank our OC Unit, Mr Imran, for giving us the different opportunities to learn. Thank you Sir. Also, not forgetting our TOs, HOs, CIs and Instructors who has guided us during our CLship.

I hope all of you here would work together and strive hard to achieve 5 years of gold where we can get a silver cane. Cadet Leaders, the responsibility we hold is now in your hands, do your best and bring the Unit to greater heights. Cadets, be discipline and soon it will be your turn to hold the responsibility. Of course, Deyi NPCC, remember that being as a team, as a family is the most important!

Last but not least. Rank comes with responsibility, however, it is the learning process and friendship that values and will last long. Thank You.

On 16th April 2011, 7 of our Secondary 2 cadets took part in the NPCC Annual Parade Guard of Honour Contingent at the Home Team Academy. Our OC Unit, Mr Imran, also represented the Unit to receive our 3rd gold plaque on this evening.

We have to thank everyone, TOs, Instructors and cadets for the hard work that they had put in in order for Deyi NPCC to achieve the gold award for three consecutive years! The next batch of CLs will have to carry on to maintain this standard, or even bring Deyi NPCC to greater heights!

Last of all, three cheers to everyone for putting in the hard work!

Sec1 Police Heritage Centre Visit 2011

On 12 April, the Sec1s Cadet were brought out for their very 1st Visit with us. They were brought to visit the Police Heritage Centre where they were exposed to more information about the Police. Our Cadets viewed an Introdutory Video which showed how the Police came about and modernised to our current Force which serve with excellence. They visited the commemorative and command gallery too. Followed by other galleries which were available at the centre. It was certainly an enriching day for the Sec1s. Hope that the the Visit has in a way or another allowed the Cadets to gain more knowledge about the Police and be inspired!

Sec4 Passing Out Parade 2011

The Sec4 Passing Out Parade 2011 was brought forward and held earlier this year on the 9 Apr 2011. The POP was usually held in Aug after the school's Handing Over Ceremony but this year in view to allow our cadets to concentrate more on their academic aspect, the POP was held in April so that it was one load off their mind.

One significant segment of the parade was the award-giving ceremony. The awards were given to outstanding Cadet Leaders who had contributed beyond their basic duties to the development of the Unit and excel in their duties towards their department. The Best Unit Cadet for both Male and Female were also announced during the Parade and it was honoured to have our OC Unit Mr Imran to pin up the prestigous badge for the awardees.

On the 24 Mar 11, our Sec3s went for a Home Team Gallery Visit at Home Team Academy (HTA). This visit is to know more about how the Home Team Concept was formulated and implemented. As well as to know more about the different roles played by the different agencies. There were exhibition and also interactive games to engage our cadets.

On the 11 and 23 Mar 11, our Sec2s cadets were deployed for Crowd Control duty at our school Sports day and National Waterpolo Competition respectively.

These opportunities were given to our cadets as part of the learning curriculum for them to serve the community at large as well as their own school. As NPCC cadets, we must always remember our Mission that is to develop our cadets into caring and responsible citizens.

To be a leader, we must first learn to serve.

Sec 1 camp was held on the last week of term 1 on the 11 to 13 Mar 11. This Sec1 Introductory Training camp was held annually to allow our potential cadets to experience Uniformed Group camp which is both tough and challenging. Of course, fun is also one of the elements for our newly joined Sec1s.

This camp was organised and planned by CLs, and having a CI supervising. The tone was set to be half-training half-leisure. Few elements such as discipline and teamwork were one of the few top priority in this camp. Cadets went through many activities such as Night hike, Trust fall, drills, tent pitching, etc.

One of the highlights during the camp was the campfire where the whole Unit was invited to come together in an annual campfire to have fun being the fact that the Unit has worked hard for the past one year to maintain our standards. Performances were put up by all cadets including the instructors. I believed we had fun!

Once again, congrats to all the Sec1s for successfully completed the camp and to the CLs and CIs, good job done!

Deyi NPCC - Area 3 Games Day 2011

On the 9 Mar 2011, our Unit hosted Area 3 Games Day after the Sec1 Swearing-In Ceremony where Area 3 participating schools were invited to a game of Handball organised by our Cadet Leaders. The parade square which was used as the venue was filled with cheering and music and laughter from the supporters and the presence of fighting spirit filled the competition courts. A fun-filled day and excellent job to the organisers!

On the 9 Mar 2011, Deyi NPCC hosted Area 3 Sec1 Swearing-in Ceremony at our school hall. This ceremony gathered all Sec1s cadets from our Area to come together to swear in with their Unit OC/ TOs and our Area 3 Assistant Commandant (AC), DSP (NPCC) Ng Tiak Kee who is there to witness the ceremony. The ceremony ended off with the recitation of the NPCC Pledge to pledge our loyalty to the Corps.

On the 5th of March, this training marked the last official training for our Sec4s SCLs as they will no longer be required to attend weekly trainings until the day of Passing Out Parade. As a Unit, we would like to express our appreciation to the commitment and the effort put in by our SCLs and a very big thank you!

We hereby announced that the Sec4s had officially stepped down from the Unit.

It was also a very significant day for 2 of our SCLs as they rose up the rank of a cadet to achieve the pinnacle rank of a Station Inspector (SI). They were:

SSA-Police-Schools Networking 2011

On the 4th of March 2011, Deyi NPCC is honoured to be alongside Ang Mo Kio NPC to co-host the annual SSA-Police-Schools Networking where it serves as a platform for Community Agencies', HomeTeam Agenices' and Schools' representatives to come together to network and do sharing on various issues such as student's offences, contraband items, etc.

We have representatives from Ang Mo Kio Family Service Centre, Officers from the Singapore Customs, Singapore Police Force, Principals & Vice Principals and Operation Managers from various Primary and Secondary Schools.

There were 4 sharing sessions namely by SPF Officer on crime statistics, Deyi NPCC Cadet Leaders SGT(NPCC) Choon Kiat and SGT(NPCC) YuJun on RACE-PYA Project 2010, Counsellor from Ang Mo Kio Service Centre and lastly Custom Officer on contraband cigarettes.

There were also exhibitions put up by our Cadet Leaders on RACE Project and exhibitors to explain and give more information to the representatives on our project. The event ended off with some discussion session where representatives raised issues on tackling some common crimes and seek fundamental solutions.

This event was a successfully one and won praises for our high standard of event management and this would not had been possible if not for the hard work and effort put in by the CIs and Cadet Leaders in planning and preparing for this event.

Great Job Deyi NPCC!!! We must continue to uphold that expectation and standard to ensuring our Unit is always Outstanding!!!

On the 19 Feb 11, the Unit hosted the Handing Over Parade for Cadet Leader batch 10/11. The day marked the official handing over of the leadership from the Senior Cadet Leaders to the new incoming Cadet Leaders.

The Unit is proud of our Senior Cadet Leaders for successfully completed their term as Cadet Leaders and would like to congratulate everyone of you upon handed over the leadership baton as well as fulfilling your duties and putting in your best effort in clinching another Gold Award for the Unit.

It is now time for you to be successful in your studies just like how you had done so in NPCC. We wish you all the best!

Your CI Gary will announce to you for the date of Stepping Down as well as Passing Out Parade. Remember to come back during your day of POP to don on the blue uniform for the last time before you embark on your final journey for your Os and Ns level.

UOPA Results - GOLD!!!

On the 7th Feb 11, NPCC HQ released the Unit Overall Proficiency Award (UOPA) results to all Unit. We are proud and pleased to announce to all our cadets, CLs, CIs and Officers that we had once again clinched a Gold Award! Our Unit had already 3rd year in running achieved our 3rd consecutive Gold Award and this is an achievement that our Unit is proud of!

We must always remember that such achievement is purely hardwork by everyone from cadets' level to Officers' level in the Unit and we should continue on the family spirit and the will to keep our Unit strong.

We must always aimed to improve our Unit to make this a better home for all of us! We shall not be complacent and strive harder to maintain the standard of our Unit!

Sec4s/5s High Ropes Challenge (HRC) @Ubin

On the 29 Jan 11, our Unit sent 21 Sec4s and 5s for the annual HRC activities which was conducted by NPCC Camp Resilience at P.Ubin. As our Unit was unable to join our Area 3 HRC, we joined Area 4 instead and this was a good opportunity to expose our Cadet Leaders to cadets from other Area which might have different cultures and for our cadets to make new friends.

Our Cadet Leaders got to enjoy the double flying fox which was a rare opportunity outside because NPCC campsite was the 1st in Singapore to have that double flying fox. As well as many other fun high elements which posed both physical and mental challenges to the participants.

We hope that our Sec4s and 5s had enjoyed this last event with the Unit and bring along many memorable memories as they move on to focus on their studies.

The organising committee had initially planned for 5 days. But within the span of 4 days, we had restock twice and in the end to declare the fundraising closed because we had cleared off all our items. This would not be possible without the support from everyone in the Unit, the school students and teachers as well as the school Principal and V.Principals.

We had hit our target and the amount will be announced to the whole Unit during the next training. Do be present to witness the Unit's and your's achievements!

Once again, good effort put in by everyone including the instructors and officers!

NCPC Photo Contest - Crime Prevention Starts With You

1.Every contestant is allow to submit ONE (1) entry. So choose your best photo with caption for submission!
2.You do not need to be really good at photography to take part in the contest. :D
3.No offensive photos or content are to be uploaded. Immediate disqualification will be impose and there goes your shot at winning the contest.
4.The photo with the most 'LIKE' by the closing date will walk away with the Nikon D3100. In the event that there is a tie, NCPC panel of judges will decide the winner of the contest.

On the 12 Jan 11, Deyi NPCC Unit organised a combined UG half-day course to Singapore Polytechnic - Singapore Maritime Academy. There were a total of 1 Sec2, 15 Sec3s and 15 Sec4s cadets from NPCC and 4 NCC cadets who participated in this course.

The objective of this course is to expose our cadets to Maritime industry and the career prospect including the diplomas offered in SP - SMA. This serves to better allow our graduating cadets to have a wider option to choose from. As part of Deyi NPCC Unit's mission to impart lifeskills to our cadets, we too assist our cadets to look out for their future especially life beyond NPCC.

Nonetheless, our cadets had fun taking a free treat to power boat rides at high speed as well as deploying the inflatable Marine Life Rafts. For our 2 lucky cadets who manage to have the chance to light up the hand-held flares and buoyant Orange smoke, it is indeed a once in a life time experience. Lastly, each participant was awarded a Certificate and also a badge.

On that note, we hope that the cadets had enjoyed themselves and for our Unit to continue to seek out new learning opportunities for our cadets.

On the 8 Jan 11, Deyi Secondary held its CCA Orientation for the Sec1 students. As an annual event, NPCC as usual, always strive our best to showcase our strength in this once a year CCA Orientation.

The spirit to do our best is always there with our FDS performance and the showcasing of NPCC to the Sec1s with our displayed items. We would like to thank Ang Mo Kio South NPC for their continuous support in our recruitment drive. Having partnering AMK South NPC for many years in our orientation since 2002, this year, AMK South had drove their Petra Vehicle to show their support in our Orientation.

Our cadets, having some as drills squad, while some are exhibitors and others flyers team, working together as a whole Unit for a common cause, to attract as many Sec1s as we can! This effort is commendable! Well Done DEYI NPCC!!!

We will be back next year stronger and the best of the best!

Dear All,

Once again, it is a brand new start of a new year...

In 2010, overall we had done well and once again bring pride to our Unit by successful conducted 2 major events which is the RACE - PYA project in collaboration with AMK South NPC and also hosting the year end Area 3 ATC.

We are proud of our accomplishments but we must always remind ourselves that this sense of achievement and success comes with pure hardwork...it doesn't fall from the sky nor does it appear just like that...it took great effort and time and money to plan and execute these events. Thus...while we enjoy the fruits of labour laid down by generations ahead of us...let us continue to maintain the standard and bring the Unit to greater heights so that future generations can also enjoy our fruits of labour...

Importantly...let's not be complacent and take whatever we have today for granted...learn to appreciate because only by learning to appreicate do you learn to cherish and treasure...

For many years to come...our OC Mr Imran has once again reminded us...1 year Gold Unit...3 years Gold Unit...5 years Gold Unit...10 years Gold Unit...for many years to come...Deyi NPCC must and will remain strong ever...a Unit that we are all proud of...our Big Family!!!

Dear All,

The Senior Cadet Leader Course started in October and ended on 26 November where trainings span over a period of 8 half-days course. This course aims to prepare our SCLTs for guiding and mentoring the junior CLs when they will be handing over the Unit to the new incoming leaders. Syllabuses such as mentoringship, conflict management, campfire organisation, etc as well as 1st Class Drills training which comprises of advanced Drills, advanced Rifle drills, Drill Cane drills and Parade Planning and Proposal.

1st Class Drill Badge is being awarded to SCLTs who has passed the stringent criteria of drills such as Turnout and Bearings, General Skills and Parade Proposal and Presentation. This is so structured to be tough and yet attainable because of the standard of drills we will expect from our 1st Class Drill Badge holders.

We are pleased to announce that 12 out of 18 SCLs successfully passed the SCL Course and will be offically appointed the appointment of Senior Cadet Leader of Deyi Secondary School NPCC Unit and to assist the CIs and Officers in mentoring and facilitating the learning of the Junior Cadet Leaders and Cadets. The SCLs will thereby be eligible for promotion to the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Cadet Leader Course and Camp 2010

Dear All,

The Cadet Leader Course started in August 2010 which spans over a period of 12 half days course and was finally concluded on 26 Nov 2010. The Cadet Leader Trainees who are the Sec2 cadets undergone trainings in both soft and hard skills such as Leadership, Instructional Skills, Communication Skills, Parade Planning, Drills, Campcraft and outdoor Survival Skills, etc. Nonetheless, we are pleased that 16 Sec2s had completed the CL Course 2010 and will be proceeding to CL camp which will conclude their CL trainings.

The 3 days 2 nights CL camp started on the 22 Dec and ended on 24 Dec 12pm. For the 3 days, Cadet leader Trainees (CLTs) were put through vigorous assessment on their leadership and communication as well as critical thinking and planning skills. It was structured in such a way where trainings are both mentally and physically tough to build up the mental resilience and teamwork within individuals and the squad. We are pleased that 15 CLTs successfully completed the camp.

On this note, this marks the end of the CL training for our Sec2s CLTs and we hereby announce that 16 Sec2s are being appointed the appointment of Cadet Leaders of Deyi Secondary School NPCC Unit and are eligible for the promotion to the rank of Sergeant.

On the 19 - 21 Nov 10, our Sec2s and Sec3s went for their ATC and STC respectively at Camp Resilience, P. Ubin. This year ATC was hosted by Deyi Sec Sch NPCC and STC was hosted by First Toa Payoh Sec Sch NPCC.

Our cadets went through numerous fun and exciting adventurous activities at the campsite such as high elements, kayaking, primitive fire starting, etc.

We are also proud that one of our Sec3 cadets SSGT(NPCC) Crystal was awarded the Best Female Camper award for STC 2010. She has indeed make our Unit proud by setting the record of achieving the Best Female Camper award consecutively twice in a row. She was also awarded the Best Female Camper award for ATC in year 2009.

A good role model and inspiration for the rest of the cadets in the Unit.

Good Job everyone! Once again, remember what you have learnt and what your CIs had debrief you on the pointers and continue to strive hard to bring more glories to the Unit and we are proud of every single cadet in the Unit!!!

Reflections on RACE!

I am the assistant coordinator of this PYA event. This event was made possible as everyone in the unit put in all the efforts they could and help to plan this event and also to carry out the event. I feel that this event was a successful event as the event went on without big and troublesome problems although there are small problems that occurred during the event. However we were able to overcome these small problems quickly. We felt very relieved when this event was over as we had to stay up late during school days to prepare the activities and also to prepare for the event day itself.

On the day of the event, I had to make sure if the stations were ready for the start of the event. After making sure of all the stations are ready, my partner and I had to keep track of all the teams’ movements. During the planning process, we had to plan not only the amazing race itself but also to plan for the CSSP event as we include a CSSP section to raise awareness about different crime among the public. When planning for the amazing race, we had to plan on how to carry out the games, the logistic needed for the entire event, the food for the participants and many more stuffs like the shirts for the participants and officials etc.

I have learnt a lot of things during this event such as how to do a proposal, the things that is needed on the day of the event such as water and food, the different forms needed and many more. I also learnt the true meaning of teamwork, the only bond that keeps the entire unit together to help and plan the event and also to carry out the event. The day before the event we had to stay up late and to prepare the logistics for the day of the event. I learnt the importance of maintaining the relationship between everyone in the team so that when any problem occurs, we would be able to solve everything quickly without any conflicts. I feel that this event has bonded us even more and also bring the bonding in the unit to a greater height. I also feel that this event is a very good learning experience not only for the sec3s but also for the other cadets.

SSGT (NPCC) Leon:

This is the first time I’m spearheading a large scale event where there are around 200 participants. The day before the event, we all stayed over at our school so we could get up early to prepare the logistics required. On the actual event day, we scrambled out of our sleeping area and gathered for a briefing.

Once the briefing was over, we started to load up the logistics into the police van, which then transported them to various game areas since the event was mainly an "Amazing Race around the Ang Mo Kio area".

After the flag off of the race, the rest of the day was a smooth sailing event. The CSSP booth area was busy bustling with different activities to help spread the message of crime prevention for various topics like vandalism, illegal money-lending activities and smoking. No doubt that there were minor slip-ups but the event went on smoothly as planned.

As the Co-MC, I had to walk around and introduce the CSSP booths from various schools and at the same time, attract bystanders to come forward and take a look at the booths. I would also like to thank the NPCC units that participated in the CSSP booth event for their time and Co-operation. Finally, it was the prize presentation ceremony and though there were slip ups, we still managed to carry out the ceremony. Finally, the event is over and months of hard work have also paid off... but we still had the tiring task of bringing back the logistics back to school and also to pack and clean up the area. I would also like to thank the SPF and the officers who helped us out before and during the event.

I guess the PYA R.A.CE event was an accomplishment. As the Coordinator of this event, I couldn’t have asked for a better team to help make this event a success. Although my Coordinator's role may be a tiring and busy one, but my assistant coordinators also had their reasonable share of the workload along with the rest of the team. My assistant coordinators had also helped me fulfill my coordinator role. It had been a fruitful learning experience working with my assistant coordinators and the team! I would like to thank everyone for their hard work, co-operation and commitment they put into this event.

CI (NPCC) Gary Toh:

This Police Youth Ambassador Project has brought a whole new experience. We worked with Ang Mo Kio South NPC, SCDF and NCPC in organizing this whole event. “Race Against Crime” is the title of our project, in short called “R.A.CE”. It focused on the uprising crime, Unlicensed Money Lending, where we targeted our audience to be students from three secondary schools to participate in an amazing race. The project also raised crime awareness for the members of public through an exhibition of crimes and preventive measures by cadets from various NPCC Units.

Given the role as the Overall Coordinator, I started planning out the skeleton of the event with my committee and the external organizations a few months before the event. The planning was tedious; it also allowed us to put on the thinking cap. With the assistance of the other organizations and our Unit’s cadets, we eventually pieced up and complete drafting the proposal. Several days before the event, we were busy packing collaterals into goodies bags and confirming all the logistic. We had trial runs for the amazing race to ensure that every detail was covered so that the race would proceed smoothly. I conducted a few briefings to further allow everyone to be clear about the day’s roles and responsibility. The committee got excited as the day drew nearer where the event they had planned so long would soon began.

With the members of public and about 100 participants for both the CSSP Booth Competition and the Amazing Race, this event lasted from 9.00am to 1.30pm, ending off with the prize presentation successfully. It was a joyous moment for the people who had put in the time and effort to ensure the success of R.A.CE.

I have learned how to manage an event and experienced it. Event Management is a very big scope and entails many other processes. Managing R.A.CE was not easy; however, I am glad with the outcome and more importantly, the learning process which started the moment we embarked on this project. Specials thanks to every individual, who had played a part in this event!

Race Against CrimE - RACE-PYA Event 2010

On the 30th Oct 2010, Sat, our Unit had successfully organised a major Police Youth Ambassador (PYA) event titled "RACE - Race Against CrimE 2010".

This event was spearheaded by our Unit with CI(NPCC) Gary Toh as the CI Coordinator and CI (NPCC) Wei Jun as the Assistant Coordinator. The cadets Committee was headed by SSGT (NPCC) Leon as the Coordinator and SSGT (NPCC) Cecilia, SSGT (NPCC) Solihin, SGT (NPCC) Wei Chao as the Assistant Coordinators.

Of course, the Sec3 squad was involved in planning part of the programmes and the entire Unit was activated with the SCIs for the mobilisation of manpower to support the success of this Event.

With co-organising it with SPF, we have other organisations involved as stakeholders such as SCDF, NCPC, C2E, Chong Boon Market Sub Committee, Cheng San Zone D RC, as well as Secondary schools. In total, we have a total of up to 100 participants for both the CSSP Booth competition as well as the Amazing Race at AMK Neighbourhood having an overall of 80 event's officials manning this event.

This event took off ideas in December 2009 when we discuss with SPF on collaboration on a major PYA project and to take on "loan shark" as the theme. SPF put up proposal to request for fundings and finally in May, we received the approval on the fundings. This project kicked off initially as a X-country Event with CSSP Booths at Ang Mo Kio Garden. The idea was later on changed to an Amazing Race with CSSP Booths. Finally, this proposal was conceptualized by having the Amazing Race with the theme Loan shark for at-risk students and the CSSP Booths will become a competition for our NPCC Area schools to provide them the platform and opportunities to complete their PYA project as well.

This project indeed took on a long planning time and many's hardwork and effort including time were being put into to ensure that success is the only option for the Unit. We have indeed done our Unit and School proud with the successful completion of such a massive deployment in organising this event. Months of hardwork and many late nights including a camp overnight before the actual day to ensure that we do not missed out even the smallest details...had finally paid off.

Now we know...we have the capability and ability to host such a major event and we should continued to strive for more challenges and bring our Unit to greater heights!

To one and all, every cadets in the Unit who had one way or another contributed to the success of this event, SCIs who took their time off on Sat to ensure we have enough supervision, SPF, SCDF and NCPC for their continued support and contributions. And of course to the Organising Commmittee who had tirelessly put in 150% of their effort to ensure success. We had tasted the fruit of our efforts!

Sec1 Swimming Course

After training resumed on the 15 Oct 10, trainings on Drills, campcraft, PT, etc were not in the training programme. Shocked? Means no more training for Sec1s?

The training programme planned instead was a swimming course specially catered for our cadets who do not have any certification in swimming. While those who had certification were given the entire 2 weeks off from training. Total of 16 Sec1s and 1 Sec3 attended this Level 1 and 2 swimming course. Next year they will proceed on to Level 3 and 4 and once they cleared Level 4 , they will be eligible for the swimming badge.

The swimming course was conducted over a span of 6 days (15, 18, 19, 20, 21 and 25 Oct 2010) with the first day a theory day conducted in school. The remaining 5 days were practical and test session at Ang Mo Kio swimming complex. Each session lasted for 2 hours.

Finally our cadets had completed the course and are now more competent in swimming. Our Unit aimed to transfer and inculcate lifeskills and values to our cadets in developing them into young caring and responsible citizens. This is always our training philosophy to develop all-rounders, resilience leaders of the future.

Congratulations to all cadets who have successfully completed the course.

Training Resumed

Dear All,

After a month of NPCC training stand down, I believe most of you are looking forward to having trainings resumed.

Our Unit has allowed an early stand down compared to other CCAs in the school so as to allow our cadets to better prepare their exams. Given the consideration that our cadets have worked hard the whole year round, this is a well deserved break from training for our cadets to concentrate on their studies and get excellent results.

Now that your end of year exams were over, training was officialy resumed on the 15 Oct 2010 and since then, we had completed 2 activities up to date.

CCA Stand Down

Dear All,

Please note that NPCC activities stand down with effect from 3 Sept 10 to allow our cadets to prepare for their upcoming end of year exams.

Thus this early stand down provide sufficient time for cadets to study and prepare well. We will expect our cadets to do well in their academic aspect as well and please note that this end of year exams results will be part of the promotion criteria for next year.

Sec2 CSSP Project 2010

Sec2 CSSP Project on "Loan Sharking" was successfully completed on the 2 Sept 10 during the VE lessons for Sec2.

The Sec2s video down their reports and performed a skit which is part of the video and was shown to the fellow schoolmates to educate them on Loan Sharking activities. It aims to educate students not to be involved in the illegal act as well as the consequences if caught.

SouthWest CDC Fund-Raising Programme‏

SouthWest CDC has launched an online portal - ClicktoAid.Sg. Clicktoaid aims to be the first local e-platform for active community e-service that garners contributions from corporate organisations through game points to assist the needy. It also presents an opportunity for schools to use it for their Community Involvement Programme (CIP)

Players will engage in various games available on www.clicktoaid.sg and their respective scores obtained in the game will be translated into monetary contributions by corporate partners to aid needy children under various assistance programme.

This portal host an array of games such as Energy Spin, Gimme Donuts,Spot My Doodle, Word Quiz and Spot the Difference. This web game will provide both fun to the players and assistance for the needy.

The objectives of this initiative are as follows:

- To increase opportunities to raise donations to help the needy community

- To increase the outreach to youth by leveraging on new media

- To increase the awareness of youth through online quizzes while cultivating their sense of social responsibilities

Energy Spin is a new game launched recently to promote environmental conservation and energy efficiency. The game will stop its' spin' on 31 September 2010. You are also encourage to participate in other available games as any points will be translated into funds to help the needy.

Commencement of Cadet Leader's Course 2010

The Sec2 cadets have completed their core syllabuses with the completion of their 2nd class drills Test. As such, the Sec2 cadets will be moving on to the next stage of the NPCC training and that is leadership.

The cadets will undergo a Cadet Leader's Training Course and Camp conducted by our CIs. Upon completion and passing all the requirements, they will be promoted to the rank of Sergeant and offically passed out of the course as Cadet Leaders. These are our future leaders and the Unit's standard and future greatly depends on the responsibilities of these Cadets.

Thus training is tough and strict discipline is enforced.

The Sec2s cadets have undergone the Cadet Leader's Training Course briefing on the 21st Aug 2010 and the Course has officially started. For this batch of cadets, they will undergo 11-half days Modular Course and a 3-days-2-nights Camp at the completion of the course.

Both the Course and Camps are customised to suits to each batch of future leader's training with a standard training framework. We aim to train our future leaders to be discipline, responsible and takes their initiatives.

Thus, we hereby announce that the Sec2 Cadets are officated as Cadet Leader Trainees and we demand high expectations and standards from the trainees.

.38 Shooting Results (Amended)

Dear All,

After an appeal to HQ on the miscalculation of scores on the .38 Shooting Prelim results, I am pleased to announce that other than our CI (NPCC) Leong Jia Hao and CI (NPCC) Gary Toh who had performed outstandingly, our Area 3 CI Team has made it into the Finals too.

Our CI Team has emerged the 1st Team in the Preliminary rounds with a total score of 614 points with the top best 4 shooters.

The team consist of 5 CIs from Area 3 and they are:

This time Deyi has achieved very outstanding results in the .38 Shooting Competition having both our Individuals and Team to be in the Finals. Previously in 2008, we have CI (NPCC) Kenneth emerged as 1st Runner up and in 2009, CI (NPCC) Jiahao emerged as 2nd Runner up in the Finals.

CIP 2010 - Sree Narayana Mission Home

On the 13 Aug 10, 22 Sec1s and 6 Sec3s went for a CIP Project organised by the Sec3s Cadet Leaders to Sree Narayana Mission Home for the Aged Sick. The objectives of the CIP was to allow our cadets to experiencing taking care of old folks as well as to care for them. In addition, we wish to also inculcate into our cadets a caring and responsible attitude towards their elderly.

The Sec1s were separated into groups with some cleaning up fans and changing bedsheets and some interacting and feeding the elderly. Nonetheless, we hope to bring some joy to the old folks by doing a service for them. The Unit donated daily necessities too such as powder, cream, etc. It was a fruitful trip for the cadets.
